Quindío Half Marathon: the race of the Coffee Cultural Landscape

Participants in the Quindío Half Marathon, held this Sunday in different parts of the region, hailed it as the race of the Coffee Cultural Landscape. Nearly 3,000 people participated in the marathon, covering 5K, 10K, and 21K races, starting at the National Coffee Park and covering courses in Montenegro, Pueblo Tapao, and La Tebaida.

Approximately 7,000 people were in Quindío, including athletes and their companions, most of whom were welcomed at the Parque del Café. Among them were visitors from neighboring Ecuador, Peru, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Among the physical activities, plogging stood out, a practice that combines athletics with collecting waste found along the route, especially those left by the athletes themselves.

The Quindío Half Marathon was held in conjunction with Oncologists of the West, and the funds raised will benefit people with cancer and their families. The Quindío governor's office was involved in the event, with the participation of the regional governor, Roberto Jairo Jaramillo Cárdenas.

Tatiana Rueda, director of the Quindío Half Marathon, expressed her gratitude to the Quindío Governor's Office and the associated entities for carrying out this project: "We are delighted to take sports tourism to the next level and provide economic development for the region," Rueda said.

Likewise, Parque del Café's communications manager, John Faber Giraldo, emphasized his pride in hosting the event; he hoped many sporting events like this one would come to the region and further promote the Quindío Destination, the "Heart of Colombia."
